Chairs and stools are items of prestige for the Kota people of Gabon. You can notice how they use similar characteristics on all of their sculptures and other subjects they create. The 'guard' masks on this stool face three directions as protective figures. The seat is decorated with various geometric patterns engraved in what seems to be copper and brass. It has traces of wear and tear and also of original restoration with big staples.
